Key Stage 3 (Yr. 7, 8 and 9)

Students follow the Mathematics National Curriculum in Key Stage 3. Work is differentiated to support and challenge all students, and schemes of work are designed to enable students to develop the skills required for the reformed GCSE syllabus. Students will study the following units:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion, rates of change
  • Geometry and measure
  • Probability
  • Statistics

Students are also regularly required to assess their own learning and review progress towards their targets. Problem solving activities including worded problems are regularly used throughout the curriculum. One piece of homework is set weekly on ‘Hegarty Maths’ linked to the topic studied in class.

Key Stage 4 (Yr. 10 &11)

Students continue to receive 4/5 lessons per week. We are following the new Edexcel GCSE specification and skills required for the new GCSE are embedded into all schemes of work.

Students will study the following units:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion, rates of change
  • Geometry and measure
  • Probability
  • Statistics

Students are regularly assessed using GCSE criteria and problem solving tasks.  Two individual or one longer piece of homework is set weekly on ‘Hegarty Maths’ linked to the topic studied in class and examination style questions.

School Resources

We enter students for the Junior and Intermediate UK Mathematical Trust (UKMT) Mathematics events including the individual and team challenges.
We run a weekly Hegarty Maths club which is very popular with Key Stage 3 students and extra homework support club. We have form time numeracy that is taught once a week which you can see here:

We provide targeted intervention through one to one tutoring, afterschool, weekend and holiday revision sessions at various points during the academic year.
