College
Colleges offer mainly vocational courses in Levels 1, 2 and 3. Level 2 is the equivalent of GCSE and Level 3 is the equivalent of A-Levels and vocational study at Sixth Form. If students do not obtain the entrance criteria for a level 3 course, they may be able to start a level 2 course at college and then progress onto level 3.
Some students may find that college is a better fit for them instead of Sixth Form. This may be because they wish to study one subject only, or they would prefer to follow a 'career focused' vocational course (mechanics, hairdressing or construction for example). It may be that they feel a change is needed or they may not meet the entrance criteria for Sixth Form.
Students living in the Hatfield and Welwyn district have various options close by:
Colleges will normally start their open days in November and it is a good idea to have a look round their campuses to get a sense of how different college life is like. It would be useful to search their website for courses you may be interested in and find out what the entry requirements are. All courses will have an apply now button and we suggest applying as soon as you know you wish to go to college as courses do get full up quite quickly.
Remember, you are more than welcome to apply to both college and Sixth Form if you are undecided so that you have both options available come results day (results depending).
