Awareness and understanding of the world of work is integral to the delivery of education and this is best achieved through business and schools working in partnership. This term Hatfield’s Business and Enterprise Academy, Onslow St Audrey’s School have been working very closely on two very ‘Real’ Project Briefs for Isuzu Trucks (UK) Ltd.
As a Business & Enterprise Academy we are constantly encouraging all of our students to develop both their Enterprise, Entrepreneurial and Employability skills and attributes. We endeavour to demonstrate to all of our students how the business world functions and operates and aim to give students the confidence to make the seamless transition from school life to working life. Above all we focus our students’ on how their skills and work can be used or developed as a business opportunity.
ISUZU Christmas Card Competition
The Isuzu Trucks (UK) Ltd Christmas card competition was a great success this year with some fabulous entries. The winning entry by India Boroughs-Thompson (Year 12) was so well received that she was congratulated by the Marketing Director. A quote from his very complimentary email to India, “over the years I have given, and received, a huge number of corporate Christmas cards and I have NEVER seen anything even nearly as innovative and intelligent as yours”.
The final design will be sent all around the world during this festive period. Now that’s something impressive to add to your portfolio! The Marketing Director was so very impressed by all the entrants, he asked each student to find a way of making their creation animated. The students set to work and developed ways of creating snowflakes that fell, a flying Santa sleigh and a twinkling star. This has now formed part of the companies ‘Digital Media’ Christmas Marketing Campaign.
ISUZU Instagram and Snapchat Launch
This time Isuzu Trucks (UK) Ltd approached our school to ask for help from our ‘Millennial’ students. Those students born in 2000 in the era of the technology boom and the social media explosion. These students who are deemed as ‘experts’ were briefed by Isuzu’s Marketing Director and asked to use their expertise and creativity to present an array of ideas about what works well on Instagram and Snapchat and of course relate this back to the products ‘Isuzu’ are typically famous for – TRUCKS!
Students worked tirelessly to create some unique and creative ideas and had the opportunity to practice their presentation skills by delivering their pitch to the Board of Directors at the companies Head Office in Hatfield.
Students found this a valuable experience. Business student Jessie Edwards commented: ‘It has been an exciting project to work on with Isuzu. I never thought ‘Trucks’ could be so interesting!’
Torin Parratt said, ‘It was a unique task and a good opportunity that will help us stand out from the crowd’.
Keiley Archer really enjoyed having the full work experience, ‘It was such a great opportunity to get to visit their Head Office and share our marketing ideas in a real brief. They seemed to like our ideas for Snap chat and Instagram, and they may even develop them, so I am excited to see if they decide to use any.’
We would like to thank Isuzu Trucks (UK) Ltd for their continued support in working with our students, and look forward to collaborating in future projects.
