District 6 a sides – we took part in regular District 6 a side competitions on the Astro Turf at Hertswood Academy in Borehamwood winning and losing in equal measure, but always getting teams out to represent the School with the girls always showing a competitive desire to do the best they could.
Futsal Competitions – we didn’t have quite the success that we have had previously in this competition but again defeats were by the odd goal and included wins against Monkswalk and draws with Bishops Hatfield.
County Cup – our best successes came in the County Cup, the U14 girls (Year 8 + 9) had a whopping 8 – 0 victory in the first round against St Michaels school from Garston. They lost narrowly in the 2nd round to Beaumont School from St Albans 3 – 4, including a fantastic hat trick by Jamie Curtain.
The major success was the Year 7 + 8 Girls playing superbly well all season to reach the County Cup Final where we unluckily lost to Sandringham School, St Albans by 4 – 3. The girls were very disappointed by the loss but they can hold their heads up high as they performed with credit for both themselves and the School. We are hoping that several of these girls get selected to represent the County Football team next year.
Their route to the final was achieved by beating:
- JFK School, Hemel (4 – 1)
- Queens School (4—3 on penalties)
- Ashlyns School, Berkhamsted (2 – 0)
- St Joan of Arc, Rickmansworth (3 – 1)
English Schools Cup
The same squad were also fantastically successful in the English Schools Cup open to all schools nationally. They managed to reach the last 16 of this competition by beating:
- St Martins School (2 – 1)
- Brampton Manor Academy (1 – 0)
- John Warner School (2 – 1)
- Before losing to Gosford Hill School from Banbury (2 – 0)
This was a truly exceptional year for the girls and they should all be extremely proud of the way they played, teamwork and the respect for their opponents.
Special mention though must be made of Jamie Curtain who was the Schools leading scorer with 17 goals over the course of the season.
We had some reasonable success this year among the boys in Football.
In the District League we managed to get to the Semi-Finals of both the Year 8 boys and the Year 9 boys where we unfortunately lost to Chancellors School from Potters Bar and to Stanborough School from WGC respectively.
In terms of previous matches one of the best results was our Year 10 boys beating Monkswalk 2 – 1 with goals by Josh Tring and Joe Fletcher – which has been an unusual occurrence in the past.
We had a greater success in the Year 8 District 5 a side Competition at Hatfield Leisure Centre where the boys beat:
- Yavneh (1 – 0)
- Mt Grace (4 – 1)
- Mt Grace (1 – 0)
- Lost to Chancellors (2 – 1)
We won the competition on points.
Each in the year the Cricket Governing Body for Cricket in England run a competition to encourage Girls to get into Cricket – we entered teams into the U13 and U15 competition, and considering our lack of experience the girls performed fantastically well.
Another Welwyn Hatfield Sports Partnership event was a Rowing Competition in which 4 students row 2000m as a Relay Team with each student competing for 500m and then changing to the next one.
In the District Competition we qualified for the County Finals at Wodson Park, Ware by winning the Year 7 Boys, Year 7 Girls and Year 9 Girls – the Year 9 girls team of Ruby Martin – rowing, left to right standing Emma Climo, Danisa Muha (paying close attention!) and Talleigh Burden. There were some really powerful rows form all the girls.
In the County Competition we performed even better –
Year 7 Girls – 3rd
Year 7 Boys – 4th
Year 9 Girls – 2rd
Sports Hall Athletics
Every Year we enter a Boys and Girls team into the Year 7 District Sports Hall Athletics Competition. This year’s competition was held at Sir Frederic Osborn School and again we performed with credit, competing in several relay events, Javelin, Triple Jump and Vertical Jump.
Having had tremendous success in the County Cross Country Championships Daniele Cerniauskaite was the Pre Junior Girls Runner Up competing against 70 other runners, Daniele Cerniauskaite represented Hertfordshire in the National Championships held in Loughborough on Saturday 24th March.
In a fantastic performance Daniele came 45th out of over the best 300 competitors from all over England – well done Daniele!
We have played in all the District Competitions this year in Years 7-10 with a great deal of success:
Year 7: Won 3 / Lost 3
Year 8: Won 3 / Lost 4
Year 9: Won 1 / Lost 4
Year 10: Won 3 / Lost 0
Also, for the first time in many years we entered the County Leagues with the Year 8/9 Girls and the Year 11 Boys which was a really worthwhile experience for all of them.
The girls performed really well as they were competing against girls who were up to 2 years older than them. The boys did so well in winning the Plate Competition against Sir Frederic Osborn School.
My thanks for all the help in coaching the team goes to Alex.
An interesting competition we entered this year for the first time was the Junior NBA Basketball competition against several schools from the County – including Sandringham and Sir Frederic Osborn. This competition will be running into the Summer Term and enabled us to receive a new kit and a new ball as well as being picked to represent the LA Clippers, an NBA team.
A great start here by the boys – we have won our first 2 games.
