OSA Academy History

OSA Football Academy was formed in September 2013 by Gary Bailey (Academy Manager) who had originally been an Education Officer for Herts Police.

He wanted to take his passion of educating students and Football Coaching experience to the next level so founded the OSA Football Academy.

In the first year the academy secured sponsors, partners and the much needed finances to support Hertfordshire’s only school that runs an independent Football Education Programme. The academy has the vision to run a programme that would enable students to stay in education whilst participating in an active football programme that is run similar to an academy structure.

Our links mean that every student within the academy will have the opportunity of choosing a player pathway after they complete the programme. This could be attending University, securing an international scholarship or trialing for a semi-professional local club.

In September 2014 the first intake of students started their campaign in the English Colleges Football Association leagues. During their first year they achieved success in what was a very tough league and went through to the finals of the District Cup.

The OSA Football Academy is unique as students represent the school in all competitions and attend a level one 1st 4Sport coaching qualification.

Following the successful 2016/2017 season the men and women’s teams have been entered into the ECFA Cat 2 League.

2015/2016 – ECFA Cat 3 League Winners (Mens)

2015/2016 – District Cup Champions (Mens)

2016/2017 – ECFA Cat 3 League Winners (Womens)

Gary Bailey

Academy Manager

Gary oversees the whole academy syllabus and training structure to ensure players reach their highest potential.  His professional coaching has spanned the last four years and across many age groups.  Within the Elite Environment he has coached players towards earning scholarships or pro-contracts.

He has obtained coaching qualifications in both UEFA B Licence and goalkeeping, and continued his development, recently passing (2016) his level 3 youth module award.

Gary’s philosophy is to create opportunities for all players that join the Academy and designed it to include pathways in practical, educational and the possibility to trial for US Scholarships.

He was a first year scholar at Stevenage on the old EFCO Scheme, has a FA level 2 outfield and is currently working towards his UEFA B Licence.
