On Tuesday 6th March, Onslow St Audrey’s students from years 7 through to 11; performed their annual dance show.
This year, dances were all choreographed to UK top 20 hits with a pre-recorded ‘radio themed’ compare. The audience were treated to contemporary, street, Ballet and modern jazz and were privy to the Y11 BTEC exam piece based around fairytale villains with a twist.
The hall was packed out for this amazing show which Miss Walker, Deputy Director of Learning: PE and Dance, and the students dedicated to the late Mayor of Welwyn Hatfield, Lynne Sparks. We were honored to have Lynne’s husband Ian and children Tom and Sian present. Ian told us ‘Lynne has always been passionate about our young people; the confidence and enthusiasm they showed on stage tonight was awe-inspiring. Lynne always loved her time in school. She always wanted the students to know that she was just an ordinary girl with the same worries and issues that they have; it is so humbling for me to hear that students have taken inspiration from her life and it is obvious that they share her caring and compassionate values through the mutual support they clearly gave each other tonight.’
Miss Walker, gave thanks to the dedication and inspiration of Lynne, and that of Year 11 student Megan Harvey Smith who had organized the entire show and then invited the audience to join her in a moment of silence.
