We continue our project in raising students’ motivation, achievement and progress through empowering them to lead the delivery of a range of sessions and developing collaboration with the local primary schools and within classes.
We continue to deliver Computer Science sessions to local primary schools. We have already delivered a series of sessions to St Philip Howard, Oak View, The Ryde and just recently Greenlanes. We are in our third successful year hosting these exciting sessions in Computer Science, where Year 5 and 6 students are given the opportunity to explore programming and build games. Year 5 and 6 students benefit from the project as they are given an insight into Computer Science subject and experience life in a secondary school. They get to explore block programming in Scratch. We look forward to working with De Havilland and Howe Dell next term.
Business delivered another successful sessions to Birchwood Avenue primary school. They made a business plan to follow a brief that required them to create wacky crisps. The primary school students had to think not only about the new product, but, also the price, promotional strategy and the distribution. They were extremely proud of their creations. Thank you to Luis Craciunescu, Erin Thompson and Katie White. The primary school teacher said ‘Your Year 9’s worked with the younger children magnificently and were a credit to you and their school.’
Year 4 primary school students’ had the opportunity to experience a Geography session. The students learnt how to create a good map and created one for the Battle of Hastings. Luke Hobbs, Ellie Colbert and Dominic Hewitt delivered an excellent session to Year 4 students. One of our student said ‘it helped me engage more in the subject and I might pick it as a GCSE option.
Howe Dell also had the opportunity to practice some French! Once again the MFL department has welcomed a Primary School for a taste of Spanish and French. It was impressive to watch how confident the Language Leaders were. They really enthused the Year 4 students with an engaging presentation, a variety of games and some Haribos… The Language Leaders showed great skills and lots of confidence. Thank you for helping”.
Language Leaders for Spanish: Ewan, Ellie C., Abbie H., Finley and Jack Press.
Language Leaders for French: Lucas, Alicia, Caitlin G., Eryk and last minute addition Jack Press.
We are proud of our Year 7, 8 and 9 students who support and lead the sessions. The primary school project develops our students’ confidence, independence and will have a positive impact on their progress in their own studies. The students will be awarded subject leader badges and a certificate.
