Road 2 Rio
On Friday 1st April our students and staff are taking part in 222 back to back marathons….. and this is not an April Fool!
The students and staff will be walking 5,772 miles for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH) to raise £5,772.
Inspired by this year’s Olympic Games, students set this challenge calculated by the distance between our school and where the Games will be held in Rio. On the day, two tracks will be open, one for walking and one for running; staff and students will continue to walk or run until this amazing feat has been completed.
Our school’s student voice have voted GOSH Charity of the Year and are passionate to make a difference to the life chances of children that are being treated and cared for at this hospital. This is a charity close to our hearts as one of our students is a long term patient and a number of students and colleagues’ children have also received or are receiving treatment there.
The inspiration behind Road 2 Rio
During Inspiration Week at the school our students voted for people that inspired them; Daley Thompson (former UK gold medal decathlete) was one and he kindly responded to our tweet whilst on a cycle challenge for Coco Charity in Kenya. We were duly inspired to plan a charity event that incorporated fitness and could involve everyone. As it is the year of the Olympics, the Road 2 Rio theme was born.
