Curriculum Overview 2015/2016
The Art department offers a range of endorsement at A-Level including:
- Art and Design
- Graphic Communication
Within the courses students visit galleries and university degree shows. Students are also given the chance to work with visiting artists/designers, to create art work with them and learn from their firsthand experience.
Students have the opportunity to develop their skills in a range of exciting art forms using different media and techniques to build confidence. The course is student lead, they are given the freedom to develop their own ideas and identity working on their own themes, inside of the exam board criteria with support and guidance from staff.
Students are supported through varied forms of regular assessment including teacher, self and peer using Edexcel assessment framework. All students will have a 15 hour exam at the end of the second year where they create an independent response to the externally set exam theme from the exam board Edexcel.
The Faculty is well resourced with a wide range of equipment and media. We also have a Mac suite which has Photoshop on all computers to edit and enhance images. We offer after school workshops for all key stages and information evenings for parents to have a greater understanding of the expectations at A-Level. We believe that this level support and communication, to both students and parents, is key to our success.
In July every year we celebrate the success of our students from KS3, 4 and 5 at our annual Arts Evening which has been hosted by the University of Hertfordshire at their professional art space for the past two years. Art work from all key stages is exhibited for parents, students and staff to view.
